Andrew Jackson (Jack) Porter

Andrew Jackson Porter, 78, of Pelham, Georgia, died Friday, July 4, 2014 at his home. Jack was born October 6, 1935 to the late Joe R. and Ella Mae Porter in Pelham. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Pelham where he served as a deacon and was a choir member for many years. He served as the Sunday School Secretary and Association of Brotherhood Director. His dedication to the community included the Civitan Club where he held the office of President for two years and was named Civitan of the Year three years consecutively. His community service also included volunteering at high school sporting events. Jack served in the U.S. Army and retired from the Marine Corps Logistics Base as Management Analyst. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Stanley Porter, and sisters Christine Donnelly, Frances Dekle and Joann Harmon. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Merle Lodge Porter; daughters Carol P. Elrod and husband Steve and Tesa P. Barron; granddaughters Jennifer Elrod and Maria Johnson and husband Andrew Welches; grandson John Rufus Barron; and great granddaughter Chloe Johnson. Visitation will be held at Willis-Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home from 6 - 8 pm on Sunday, July 6. The funeral service will be at First Baptist Church of Pelham at 11 am on Monday, July 7. Interment will be in Pinecrest Memoy Gardens
