Carl Long

Carl LaFluer Long, Jr., 87, of Pelham, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, and cherished friend. Born March 12, 1939, in Calhoun County, Carl was the son of the late Carl LaFluer Long, Sr. and Dorothy Bass Long. He was known for his integrity and strong work ethic and was employed for over 50 years as a tractor salesman, pecan and produce farmer, and most recently, worked for H and L Distributors before retirement. Carl was very active in his church and community, serving as Chair of Deacons, Sunday School Director, Choir member and leader, men’s quartet leader, and Bible teacher at the at First Baptist Church of Pelham. He also served in a number of leadership positions at Ravenwood Academy, including Board Chair. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Susan Milliron Long of Pelham. Other survivors include two daughters, Teresa Long Pierce of Gainesville, GA; and Penny Long Harris of Camilla; a sister, Jane Thornhill of Thomasville, and brother, John Long of Cumming, GA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl LaFluer Long, Sr, and Dorothy Bass Long, and a daughter, Glenda Long Folsom, two brothers, Hiram and Stanley Long, and sisters, Louise Holland and Sue Barrow. Funeral services for Carl LaFluer Long, Jr., 87, of Pelham will be held Monday, August 24, 2026 at 12:00PM at First Baptist Church in Pelham. Rev. Leroy Williams and Dr. John Pierce will officiate and interment will follow at Pinecrest Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Will Watson, Mitch Watson, Jackson Harris, Caleb Land, Dustin DeVito, Jacob Robinson, and Scotty Conger. The family will receive friends on Monday at 11:00AM until service time, at the First Baptist Church in Pelham. In place of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Carl to First Baptist Church of Pelham .
