Carol Kay Bentley, 70, of Pelham, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2026 at Camellia Gardens in Thomasville, GA. Funeral arrangements will be announced later this week.
Born October 9, 1956 in Camilla, GA, she was the daughter of the late Troy Belcher and Virgie Elaine Powell Bentley. She was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where she played the piano for many years. She attended Pelham High School and Ravenwood School, where she graduated. After graduation she attended Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in English and a Masters in Education for middle grades. During college she was a member of the El Circulo Espanol Cervantes Organization. This is a college organization that promotes the Spanish language and literature and Hispanic heritage on college campuses. After college she returned to Pelham to teach in the Pelham City and Mitchell County Middle School System. She continued teaching until her mother became ill, leaving her teaching position to care for her mother for many years. After her mother' death, Carol returned back to teaching, a role she dearly loved. She then worked with the Thomas County Public Library System as a Librarian with the Meigs and Ochlocknee libraries. She served as a tutor for many children after school in this role and loved the children she was able to help. Carol is survived by a multitude of cousins and was preceded in death by her parents, paternal grandparents Roy C. and Esther Creech Bentley and her maternal grandparents Thomas C. and Laura Grant Powell.
