Jane Garrard Bennett

Graveside services will be held Monday, June 29, 2026 at 11:00AM at Pinecrest Memory Gardens. Rev. Leroy Williams will officiate. Jane Garrard Bennett passed away on June 26, 2026 at The Residence at Oak Grove, in Thomasville, Georgia. Jane was the daughter of Alfred Basil Garrard and Berniece Huber Garrard (both deceased) of Pelham, Georgia. Jane graduated from Pelham High School where she was head majorette and homecoming queen. She graduated from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama where she had the honor of being selected as a beauty for the yearbook all four years she attended. She had a 40-year career as a teacher and obtained a Master’s in Education and additional certification in educating the mentally retarded, reading, gifted, and special education. She ended her career as the Director of Curriculum for Conecuh County in Alabama. Jane was married to Kent Rose with whom she had a son, Eben Rose, who predeceased her. She was married to V. Palmer Smith for 40 years who passed away in 2019. She was subsequently married to Robert Bennett for 6 years who passed away in April 2026. Jane had many lifelong friends as she was especially good at being a friend. She devoted many years to rearing her younger brother and younger sister after the untimely death of their parents. She was active in her church and with several civic congregations. Jane is survived by her sister Judy Adams of Pelham, Rebekah Bisger of Richmond, VA, brother A.B. Garrard of Thomasville, nephew Garrard Adams of Smyrna, GA, nieces; Julia A. Spencer of Baker County, GA, and Mollie Bisger of Richmond, Va., brother-in-law Tony Adams of Pelham, and dear friend  Melanie Ryals. Her sister Barbara Garrard predeceased her.
