It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Oneal Layton on March 6, 2026, at his home in Morgan, GA. Born on August 10, 1938, in Meigs, GA, John lived a life dedicated to his family, his community, and his country. John had a distinguished career in aeronautics manufacturing at Boeing, where his expertise contributed significantly to the industry. His commitment to public service was evident in his role as Utility Superintendent for the City of Meigs and Pelham, where he worked tirelessly to ensure that his community had access to essential services. In addition to his professional accomplishments, John honorably served in the United States Military, demonstrating his dedication to protecting and serving his nation. He was a proud member of the Leary Baptist Church, where he found a sense of community and purpose. He is survived by his beloved wife, Grace Layton; his son, Craig Layton, and daughter-in-law, Kimberly; his grandson, Landon Layton; and his granddaughter, Alexi Vinson. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Wilson, and sister-in-law, Linda Coarsey. John was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry, Sr. and Carrie Mae Scarborough Layton, and his brother, William Layton, Jr. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him. Visitation will be held on March 11, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM at the Willis-Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home and Monuments, located at 176 Hand Ave W, Pelham, GA 31779. John Oneal Layton will be dearly missed, but his contributions to his family, community, and country will be remembered fondly.
