Montine Logue Webb, 87, of Thomasville, formerly of Pelham, passed away March 6, 2023 at Southern Pines Memory Care Facility in Thomasville, GA.  Funeral services will be Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 2:00 PM, at Hand Memorial United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Pelham City Cemetery.  Rev. Kathy Israel-McCleod will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Harold Webb, Travis Jackson, Tracey Jackson, Tony Logue, Craig Chambless, Josh Stewart, John Whitfield and Randy Chew.

Born January 17, 1936 in Grady County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Olon Franklin and Ellie Anna Bell Logue.  She was married for forty-three years to Fred Akridge Webb, who preceded her in death.

Montine Webb graduated from Mitchell County High School and earned a secretarial degree from the Jones College of Business in Jacksonville, FL. She joined Family Bank in 1955 and served in all operational activities within the bank. She was a corporate officer of the bank for 48 years and began serving on the Board of Directors of the bank in 1979.

She was always interested in the education for the banking industry. During the 1970’s she helped established South Georgia Chapter #278 of the Institute of Financial Education which included 21 Savings and Loans and served as its first president for a two-year term. She also served as chairman of the Georgia League of Savings Leadership Conference and also served on its  board.  She continued to serve on the Family Bank’s Board until 2016 on the Loan Committee, Asset & Liability Management Committee and as a co-trustee of the Bank’s pension plan.

Montine was always very active in church activities, where she served in many leadership roles. At the Burns Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member for many years, she taught the youth Sunday School, served as financial secretary, was on the finance committee, and sang in the choir for many years. She gave generously of her time, talents, gifts, and service to her church.

Montine gave generously and enthusiastically of her time and talents to civic organizations and causes benefitting the town of Pelham and surrounding area. She was the 1990 president of the American Heart Association of Mitchell County, working closely with invasive cardiologist William Ellis, MD, who was a lifelong friend from Camilla. She was also a member of the board of directors of the Pelham Chamber of Commerce, helping with fundraising efforts. She was Vice President and a director of the Pelham Park Plaza Civic Center. She was a longtime member of the Cotton Homemakers Club in Cotton, GA.

Montine was very creative and sewed extensively, making most of the draperies in her house and clothes for her daughters. You could not know Montine without knowing that she was an avid flower lover, earning the Master Gardener credential with her friend Miriam Powell in half the usual time. She gardened many years in her yard and helped to beautify the town of Pelham as a member of the Pelham Garden Club.

Music was something Montine enjoyed her whole life, playing and singing hymns at home and seeing that her daughters took piano lessons. She and her husband Fred made sure that they were exposed to fine music through classical concerts at FSU.

In her widowed years, Montine and Dr. Tom Reynolds shared a devoted relationship for 22 years, and they enjoyed many happy times together. Dr Reynolds’s daughter Martha was also a fond friend.

She is survived by her daughters Jean Webb Terry of Fernandina Beach, FL and Elaine Webb Mercer (Mitch) of Albany, GA; grandchildren Franklin Mercer (Rochelle) of Basalt, CO, Matthew Mercer of Albany, GA, David Terry (Sara) of Fernandina Beach, FL, Sam Terry (Tiffany) of Las Vegas, NV; great grandchildren Lilah Mercer, Wesley Mercer, Molly Katherine Terry, Andrew Terry, Stella Claire Terry, Benjamin Terry and Matthew Terry; brothers Hilmon Logue of Oxford, GA, Bernard Logue (Carolyn) of Pelham, sister Joan Logue Price of Jacksonville, FL, sister-in-law LaFaye Webb Jackson of Atlanta, GA, and brother-in-law Hayward Webb (Eileen) of Pelham, GA.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred Akridge Webb, sister Geraldine Chambless and brother Hugh Edmon Logue.
