Russell Gene Benton, Sr.

Russell Gene Benton, Sr., 84, of Cairo, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2025 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at 12:00 noon at Gordon Heights Church in Cairo. Ricky Pearson and William Hurst will officiate with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donald Richardson, Justin McGill, John David McGill, Trey Courtney, Terry Hurst, and Bradley Watts. Born February 15, 1941 in Pembroke, GA, he was the son of the late William Mayo and Sara Turner Benton. He was a self employed contractor specializing in roofing. He is survived by his wife, Frances Allen Benton of Cairo; children Brenda Dale Lamb (Scott) of Whigham; Russell Benton Jr. (Stacy) of Thomasville, Sarah Cox (Steve) of Cairo, and Terry Morey (Weedy) of Hartsfield; step-children Lorraine Johnson (Vann) of Metcalf and Phillip Wilham (Kim) of Cairo; grandchildren Shianne Lamb, Brittany Lindsey, Skyler Schebum, Scott Hickman, and Jasmine Sanders; great grandchildren Lila Quinn, Hayden Quinn, Anna Hickman, Scott Hickman, Jr., Niya McGill, Jonathan McGill, and Annaleigh McGill; eight step-grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Brenda Fay Benton, and siblings William (Bill) Benton, Dean Benton and Elizabeth Nesmith; grandchild Starr Schebum, step-daughter Roxanne Todd.
